Steps to changing our food addiction. After 4 years of practice I’ll share that though it’s easy to justify our food choices, let’s call it what it is. We are addicted to food! Cigarettes used to be touted as healthy. Alcohol and wine touted as healthy. And now they tell us our food is healthy and nothing to worry about. But as this group knows, try and eat just Whole Foods & we quickly see that we are in fact addicted to food. As someone that has had lots of addictions ranging from alcohol to work, I will tell u that willpower doesn’t cut it! We need discipline sure, but just like anything else we need a change in mindset first. Here is what seemingly works for food!

Step One: Build a new belief! Start watching documentaries, following whole food content producers, listen to podcasts! Etc. Get excited!

Step Two: Fast to become aware. Fasting of all varieties gives us guardrails and shows us our habitual eating. It also gives us passion!

Step Three: Start a daily food as medicine regime. Mine is starting the day with my raw cut veggie bin!

Step Four: Develop a list of ingredients you will eat from and stick to it! Print it and put on the fridge.

Step 5: Add a daily walk early in the day or a daily workout early in the day. This sets the tone and resets our fight or flight to reduce cortisol and stress eating.

Then when u fall off don’t beat yourself up, just plan a day in the near future to restart the steps! After awhile you’ll look back and realize “while I’m not doing it perfect yet, I’m eating way cleaner and better than before.” Applaud the successes and quickly forget the failures!
