We all love a good documentary, book, or article that claims to debunk, myth bust, or hack our health beliefs.
The problem is there is almost always a “trusted source” that weaves a similarly convincing tale with just the opposite viewpoint.
Who do we trust?
Why is it so hard to find the truth?
What information or guidance should we follow?
And most importantly, how do we navigate information to advocate for our own health?
Recently, I watched an episode of Rotten on Netflix where they analyzed the organic and raw milk industry. Having enjoyed other episodes, this one made my bullshit meter go off.
It was the classic “study of one” viewpoint where they kept highlighting what was clearly old footage of a young boy hospitalized after drinking raw milk. They went on to talk to a medical expert that shockingly announced that there had been 100’s of outbreaks and even 3 deaths linked to raw milk consumption.
This led me to look up the statistics of just how much raw milk is consumed since I’d never heard of it.
What I discovered is that MILLIONS of people drink raw milk every single day with no ill effect, and most do it for a health benefit! Who knew?
Statically, we are much more likely to die from 1000’s of other FDA-approved products on the market. Alcohol alone kills nearly 100,000 Americans and 3 million people worldwide every single year. So why are they picking on the dairy farmers?
After spending more than a decade selling medical devices, hereditary cancer testing, and diagnostics, I became jaded as it relates to “medical truths.”
Most doctors, scientists, and medical professionals are compassionate well-intended people. A small percentage, however, get “bought” by corporate America and will publish, speak, and influence in skillfully deceptive ways.
Having worked closely with good doctors in the past, I learned a thing or two about how to spot a highly deceptive lie. The medical community is pretty good at this.
So how do we do t,hat too? It’s as simple as who, why, what, and how.
We will spend time with each of these. In the meantime, don't miss your opportunity to sign up for Transformation 3.0! The fun begins on January 10!
